Now is the Time

Reflection 54 from Matters of the Heart, a series of Orthodox reflections on faith and life.

One of the greatest deceptions of the enemy is to convince us that we have an abundance of time at our disposal. The devil strives continuously to drive the thought of our very mortality away from our minds, directing our attention rather to the various worldly activities with which we can fill our time. And the reason for doing so is sinister. For time is God’s precious gift to humanity, with each passing moment a chance to seek the Kingdom and bring ourselves a step closer towards unity with the Lord. Our adversary is on a mission to ensure we delay our work for righteousness, or at least delay it as much as possible. But God’s message to each of us is loud and clear: “the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!”Now is the time for repentance! Now is the time for an increase in faith. We must delay not a second more to love our neighbour and to strive for the crown of righteousness.

Now is the time!

Prayer

Lord may the remembrance of my earthly departure be at the forefront of my mind so that I may ceaselessly strive towards Your eternal kingdom.
