The Rejoicing of Christ

Reflection 38 from Matters of the Heart

‘…Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hid these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them unto babes.’
Luke 10:21

1 Corinthians 1:18

The Lord is in great delight! He is exceedingly joyous over us, the little ‘babes’ who have received Jesus and clung to Him for salvation. Like the humble and unlearned disciples, we are foolish by any measure of this world for placing our trust in a crucified Messiah. For we acknowledge Christ as the one true God, our Redeemer and the source of eternal life. And who are the wise and prudent of this world? Like the Pharisees and Scribes, they are those believing themselves wise, have blinded their own eyes to the knowledge of God.

Let us therefore strive to be more like the disciples, babes devoid of pride, and children reliant on our heavenly Father. And the outcome is this, just as through simple fisherman were great wonders performed and many lives transformed, so too will we become God’s instruments of power and beacons of light leading many towards the Kingdom of Heaven.

Prayer

Rid me Lord of the wisdom of this world so that I may be filled rather with your eternal Truth.
