Matthew 13:24–30

This Psalm of David has been traditionally used by Jews and Christians alike to hail in the New Year with praise to God for His salvation and providence. Centering on the agricultural cycle, the supplication beseeches the Lord to bless the gathering of the harvest and the planting of new seeds, not merely agriculturally but more so spiritually.

For the seeds signify the goodness of our Lord sown in us, and the wheat is the offering of ourselves in response. And a time will come when we will be gathered as the harvest, and the wheat will be assembled into the barn of the Master, whilst the tares cast into the fire. We must therefore entreat our Master, the Good Sower, to bless His seed in us that we may sprout a profitable yield in our hearts and through our lives so that come time for harvest, He may reap crop worthy of His labour.

Prayer

My Good Master, bless my life and guide my path so that I may yield what is honourable and acceptable in Your sight.
