Reflection 11 from Matters of the Heart

“Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?”

As high noon drew near on a hot summer’s day, the Samaritan woman made her way to the well. Perhaps she came at an odd time of the day to avoid harsh judgment and condemnation. For her aim was to draw water and be on her way, returning once more to her passion-filled living. But the Lord had greater plans for the woman who thirsted. He dialogued with her, breaking all cultural barriers, and satisfied her thirst once and for all.  He overlooked her sinful state and highlighted her goodness. Jesus elevated her focus from the common life to that of the everlasting. She came seeking the earthly but went away with the heavenly. Finding fulfillment in the Truth, she left her waterpot behind, and made her way to the city to testify of the One who is the Christ.

My dear Lord, meet me as you did with the woman at the well, and fill me with Your Truth, Wisdom and Fulfillment.
