That the Works of God May be Revealed

Reflection 13 from Matters of the Heart

“Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him…” – John 9:3

2 Corinthians 12:9

Before healing the man born blind, our Lord affirmed the reason behind his lifelong affliction. Christ explained that the man’s infirmity is for no other reason than for God to manifest His glory.

The man lived a life of blindness, until the Lord stepped in to help him see. The man was born with a severe illness, but the Physician made him well again. The man lived a life incomplete, until the Lord fulfilled his needs. The man lived a life of weakness, and in his weakness God manifested strength. How many of us are living a life of suffering? Wondering where God is and why He is allowing such things to happen? Forgetting that our suffering may be the means by which God can manifest Himself in our lives…for ‘His strength is made perfect in weakness’ (2 Cor 12:9).

Prayer:

My Lord and Savior, help me to see every weakness of mine as an opportunity to experience Your strength and Your power.
